Online Students

TUSA is Online!

Welcome to TUSA Everywhere

This is your online student community.

TUSA Everywhere is our online student program. It’s designed for students who study online or away from campus, so you can stay connected, supported, and involved wherever you’re based.

We’re run by students, for students. That means advocacy, services, and events that work for you, online and in real life.

What’s on for Distance Students?

Just because you’re studying remotely doesn’t mean you have to miss out. We run regular online events, from trivia nights and Jackbox games to study sessions and social catch-ups. Check out what’s coming up and join in from wherever you are.

Starting this year, we’ve got:

A pink rotary phone labelled "TUSA" sits on a blue background with the text "PHONE-A TUSA" above it and phrases "CALL ME", "HELLO?", and "RING RING" around the phone.

Phone a TUSA

A relaxed weekly Zoom drop-in for online students. Join us on Tuesdays from 3–4pm to ask questions, get support, or simply have a chat with TUSA staff and other students.

Pixel art joystick with game icons and "TUSA Online Gaming Night, Every Thursday Night, 6:30pm" in bold pink text on black background.

TUSA Online Game Night

Join us on Discord every Thursday for a casual online games night. Play Jackbox, jump into a game with others, or just hang out and meet fellow students.

Louvre Virtual Tour

Take a virtual trip to the Louvre from the comfort of home. Join us for a relaxed online tour as we explore a gallery together and share our favourite artworks.

Shut Up & Write

“Shut Up and Write!” is a two-hour gathering where you prioritize writing above all else.

Are you struggling with focus and productivity when working alone? Join us for our VIRTUAL and IN-PERSON “Shut Up and Write!” sessions on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, starting Wednesday March 4th. The sessions will run on this schedule until August 26th.

Regardless of whether you’re in your campus office in Hobart or working in a public library in Darwin, all on-campus, online, interstate, and international postgraduate UTAS students are welcome to join our Zoom sessions. If you are able to, we also invite you to join us in the Social Sciences building on the Sandy Bay Campus to write in-person.

Writing doesn’t have to be a solitary activity. In fact, writing in the company of others can greatly enhance your productivity and focus. “Shut Up and Write!” (SUAW) offers a social writing experience, creating a supportive group environment where everyone can concentrate on their writing.

Support services that you can access

Studying online doesn’t mean missing out on support. Many TUSA services are available online and in person, depending on your needs and location.

As an online student, you can access:

* These services might only be accessible if you live close to campus. Our Food Hub is available at all campuses, and distance students can join UTE program as we offer pick up from your nearest campus or get our online subscription box. We are currently working to offer referral Food Hub program beyond Tasmania and Rozelle.

Student experiencing significant financial hardship and/or food insecurity are encouraged to make an appointment with our Student Advocacy Service to access support.

Clubs & Societies

Are you part of a club or society and would like to improve your online offerings?

We are in the process of putting together some tips and tricks to help guide you (watch this space). In the meantime, did you know that we can post your events to our website and across our platforms including Facebook and Instagram? Get in touch via our contact page.

Let us know what you think!

We value your feedback and suggestions. Get in touch via our contact page or fill out a short survey on your online engagement.
