TUSA is
inviting you on a half day trip by ferry to the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA)
[for UTAS students only]. We have limited slots to secure the best experience so you’d better act fast!
What to expect:
Home to one of the most controversial private collections of modern art and antiquities in the world, MONA is a provocative and engaging place to spend a few hours or even the night.
Your MONA experience starts with a 30-minute ferry ride, complete with sheep and tigers to sit on. Enjoy the ravishing views of kunanyi/Mt Wellington as we cruise up Timtumili Minanya/Derwent River to MONA.
Upon arrival, there are 99 steps to climb to get to the museum entrance, or there is an accessible entrance via underground tunnel if you require it.
Itinerary:
- 1.00 pm – Meet your UTE Guide at the Brooke Street Pier Ferry Terminal. Don’t be late, the ferry leaves at 1.15 sharp
- 1.45 pm – Arrive at MONA
- 2.00 pm – We’ll be greeted at MONA for a brief intro to the wonderful world of MONA, then you’ll immerse yourself in Australia’s largest private collection of art at your own pace (self-guided tour).
- 5.00 pm: Return by ferry to Hobart
- 5:30 pm: Arrive at Brooke Street Pier
What to bring:
- There are no labels on the artworks at MONA. We recommend downloading ‘The O’ App before your visit. Information to download The O is available here.
- TUSA does not provide transport to or from the ferry terminal. Please make your own way to the ferry on time.
- Bring your own water bottle to stay hydrated. You can also purchase food and drinks at MONA.
Only under our UTE program, tickets are $15 per person for the entire experience, including return ferry, museum entry fee, and a brilliant opportunity to make unforgettable memories!
More
information:
Located within the Moorilla Winery and Vineyard, spanning 3.5 hectares, MONA Art Gallery is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Tasmania and the largest privately funded museum in Australia. There are fine dining restaurants, outdoor food vendors, greenery, and artworks (of course!) as far as the eye can see.
MONA’s creator David Walsh is a local Tasmanian character who generated his wealth through gaming and used the proceeds of his winnings to construct an experience like no other.
